How a cool, crisp brand and strategic media coverage helped Klir win top VC funding & the biggest customers in North America.
Challenge
Klir was disrupting a stagnant industry notoriously adverse to change. Water utilities, accustomed to spreadsheets and reactive problem-solving, needed to be convinced of the transformative power of Klir's software.
Meanwhile, to achieve its ambitious goals of becoming the first Operating System for Water, Klir’s founders needed to raise VC capital—and this meant bringing water technology into the media mainstream.
The Approach
Branding
To breakthrough, Klir needed to shock its audience into action with a bold vision for the future of water management. We paired a compelling brand narrative that challenged the status quo with a crisp visual identity to grab prospective buyers’ attention.
Content Marketing
Innovating in a stagnant market starts with awareness and education. From sales enablement explainers, to blogs, to comprehensive ebooks, and even an original comic video series, we built content to reach each member of Klir’s buying committee and user base.
Social Proof
Government buyers love to follow their peers. We spotlighted how some of the most sophisticated global metropolitans were using Klir to improve water management including videos with execs from LA & Las Vegas.
Thought Leadership
To secure mainstream VC partners, Klir needed to make waves. I worked with the CEO David Lynch to build his profile with op-eds and media coverage in key publications read by the world’s biggest and best VCs. Our message headlined publications including Fortune, Forbes, and Crunchbase. Armed with strategic pitch decks and investor memos, Klir’s CEO had the opportunity to meet with top VCs, ultimately leading to a $16M Series A fundraise with Insight Partners.
The Results
Brand awareness: Klir has become a category-defining brand, recognized as the #1 Operating System for Water and adopted by many of the largest cities in North America.
Funding success: Strategic media coverage and a standout brand played a crucial role in allowing Klir to secure a $16M Series A funding round and further develop its technology and accelerate its growth trajectory.
Lead generation: A powerful brand narrative, critical sales enablement, and compelling video testimonials resonated with the world’s best managed cities, driving sales from Klir's target buyer, North America's largest municipalities.
